5 Pounds!

Well folks...we officially have a 5 Pounder on our hands! YES, Lane's weight tonight is 5 pounds 1 ounce. She is getting so big that she is about to outgrow her preemie clothes. We are so ready to put that girl in some newborn clothes! Lane is continuing to nurse two times a day as long as she is awake during feeding times. For those of you that know me well, you know that I am a BIG planner, so I am having to learn to be flexible! I am told that I need to master that anyways before we go home:) When Lane is not nursing she is getting 42 cc. of milk through her feeding tube. It is hard to imagine that she started out getting only 1/2 cc. when she was born! She is still in her isolette, but it is no longer "climate controlled". She has maintained her temperature this past week, so are anticipating she will be back in an open crib again soon.

Sloan is continuing to amaze us everyday as well! He is still a little smaller than his sister, but he is slowly catching her. He had a big weight gain tonight and is now 4 pounds, 7 ounces. He looks just as chunky at Lane does, but he is a couple of inches shorter. I am sure everyone is real suprised to know that we do not have very long kiddos:) Sloan is also nursing two times a day, and actually does better than Lane does. He is such a little snuggler that I truly enjoy our special time together! When Sloan is not nursing he gets 37 cc. of milk. His feedings will go up tomorrow since he had such a good weight gain tonight. Sloan still gets breathing treatments and therapy every 12 hours to strengthen his lungs. We can tell they are both working as he is getting stronger and stronger each day.

We thank GOD each day for the "baby steps"...HE has been good to us!

Sloan Joins the 4 Pound Club

Yesterday Sloan joined his sister in the 4 Pound Club!! Today he gained 2 more ounces, so he is now weighing in at 4 pounds 2 ounces. He is getting so big! I am also starting to nurse Sloan two times a day as long as he is awake during his assessment time. I love my bonding time with him, and it is teaching me the true meaning of patience:)

Lane was able to go into an open crib for about 12 hours, but she was having a little bit of a rough time so the doctor decided to put her back into her isolette and try again in a few days. It was about the same time she started nursing, so it may have just been too much for her to handle at once. She is doing great now! Lane is also steadily gaining more weight. Tonight she weighed 4 pounds 10 ounces. She is on her way to 5 pounds!

This past weekend we also learned something new about both Lane and Sloan...they LOVE to suck their thumbs!:) I know, I know...it's a bad habit, but I decided that if it makes them happy that's great!

Dimples and Double Chins

Lane and Sloan are continuing to grow and are getting stronger!

We hit another huge milestone today....I was able to start nursing Lane! She did so well that I am going to start nursing her twice a day. She is still off CPAP and only desats after she eats as she still has some trouble with refluxing. Lane is now up to 4 pounds 7 ounces, and she has a double chin! We love it!

Sloan continues to amaze us since he pulled out his ET tube! He is OFF of CPAP as well and is breathing really well. He is now only a couple of tiny steps behind Lane! I am hoping to get to start nursing him soon. He now weighs 3 pounds 13 ounces....so close to joining the 4 Pound Club!:) The other day we noticed that Sloan has a big dimple on his right cheek....the same as his daddy!!

Both babies had their routine eye exam and there was no change from last Thursday, which is good. They will have another one next Thursday. We are looking forward to reaching their next milestone....being in an open crib! They will probably have the "open crib challenge" in the next couple of days to see if they are ready. They must be able to regulate their body temperature for a few hours. It will be so nice when they make this move. Then we will be able to simply reach down and pick them up:)

A BIG Week

After reading my last post, I realized that ALOT has happened since Tuesday!

Scott and I woke up Wednesday morning to several inches of snow on the ground, so we decided we would call the NICU to see how the babies were doing before we shoveled our car out of the parking lot. When Tana (one of fabulous nurses) answered the phone we could tell right away that she had some good news for us! She couldn't wait to tell us that Sloan had pulled out his ventilator tube and was breathing on his own!!! So, we threw on some clothes and headed to the hospital to see our BIG BOY!

I am happy to say that Sloan remains off of the ventilator, and as of 2:00 today he has graduated from SIPAP to CPAP! We are so proud of him. Sloan has also gained a couple of ounces since then. He now weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces!

Thursday morning was also a big day. Our little ones graduated to the next room! After being in the NICU everyday for 9 weeks we have figured out that the closer the babies get to the door, the closer they are to going home. While we are not there yet, we are ONE step closer:)

Lane didn't want Sloan to get all of the attention this week, so she decided to reach a couple of milestones herself. She hit 4 pounds lastnight!! She is actually getting some chunky cheeks and legs! Today Lane was also able to get off of CPAP. She has been off of it a couple of times before, but we are hopeful that she will not have to wear that mask anymore.

Every night this week we have been able to get both of the babies out at the same time and hold them for a couple of hours, and each night we rotate who we are holding. Tonight Scott held Lane and I held Sloan. I could hear Scott talking to Lane, but I couldn't figure out what he was saying. I finally asked him and he said that they were having judging practice! Oh boy....here we go!!

We HATE shots!!

Today Lane and Sloan received their 2 month immunizations...3 shots!! Sloan did pretty good, but Lane did not like them at all. Of course, the nurse had to tell me this because I asked her to give the shots when I was not going to be around:)

Other than the shots, we had a pretty good day today! Scott and I got to spend a lot of time in the NICU before the weather got bad. Two of our favorite nurses were in our room so it was nice to sit and visit with them while we hung out with the babies.

Lane is still weighing 3 pounds 9 ounces, and is still doing well on CPAP. We are anticipating her to be off of it real soon. Hopefully her lungs are getting strong enough! I thought Scott was going to change his first diaper (YES, his FIRST one!) but the nurse noticed his eyes watering so she let him off the hook:)

Sloan has lost an ounce and then gained it back. He weighs 3 pounds 7 ounces. He is still being weaned off of the ventilator. Today his rate was 24, so we are getting so close to 15! The doctor told us that having him off the ventilator by next week would be a great goal for him. We are saying our prayers and crossing our fingers!

Lastnight we experienced a "first"....Scott held Sloan at the same time I held Lane. It was great!
Looking forward to what progress tomorrow brings!

8 weeks old

I cannot believe that Lane and Sloan are now 8 weeks old! I was looking back at their 6 week old pictures, and I cannot believe how much they have changed in the last couple of weeks. They both continue to amaze us everyday!

Lane is growing! In the last week she has consistenly gained weight. She now weighs 3 pounds 9 ounces, and is filling out her preemie clothes! She has also been off and on CPAP twice. The first time she was on high flow she did really well for a couple of days and then got tired. The doctors put her back on CPAP for a few days and then tried high flow again. The second time she was only able to tolerate it for about a day, when the decision was made to return to CPAP. We were alittle disappointed to have her back on CPAP, but of course we want what's best for her. Hopefully, this will only make her lungs stronger! Lane continues to love bath time (every Wednesday and Sunday) and her pacifier. She makes the loudest smacking noises when it's in her mouth! But, I believe her favorite thing is when her daddy holds her. The other day Scott was holding her and I overheard him telling her that she can never get married because he wanted her to live with him forever!:)

Our little man Sloan is over his infection!! His blood cultures came back negative. AMEN!! Hopefully we are done with those nasty infections. He is also growing. Sloan now weighs 3 pounds 4 ounces. He has the cutest short little legs and arms:) Sloan is still on the ventilator, but the doctors are still weaning his rate by 2 each day. He is now on a rate of 26, so we are getting closer to our goal of 15. I hope and pray that he will be on CPAP sometime next week. Unlike Lane, Sloan does NOT like bath time! Scott lets me know that little boys do not like baths! He does love a good back massage though. A couple of minutes of rubbing his back and he is calm and falling back to sleep.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support! I wake up every morning feeling extremely blessed for my new little family.
