Well...after 117 days we are finally HOME with our precious babies!!!!
After a long day of paperwork and meetings, we were surprised with a cake and a small going away party from the wonderful NICU staff before we left. While we were thrilled to be going home, it was hard saying goodbye to all of the wonderful people we have spent the past 4 months with. I know we will be keeping in touch with them for many years to come!
Lane and Sloan slept peacefully in their carseats for the 2 hour drive, and around 9:00 p.m. we walked through the front door of our house! What a great feeling it was!
They had a great first night waking up every 3 hours to eat and then falling right back to sleep. My mom (their GoGo) came to stay with us so daddy could finally get some sleep. So far we have been able to stay on their eating/sleeping schedule that was established in the NICU.
As you can imagine we are a little sleep deprived, but we wouldn't change it for anything in the world! Scott and I are so thankful to have our family under one roof, and we truly appreciate all of the support and prayers.
Congrats. coming home is such a wonderful experience. ryan will be 2 on April 21st - and we still keep in touch with the nicu family. we had video'd throughout the stay, the day coming home, the first time his older brothers and sister got to see him (which was his first day home, the nicu was closed bc of rsv and swine flu). We had NEVER watched the video and FINALLY did last weekend - i think i was afraid to see and go through all the emotions again...
ReplyDeleteanywho - good luck - don't forget to sleep when they sleep :-)
Congrats on bring babies home!!!
ReplyDeleteScott & Erika,
ReplyDeleteYour family has touched our hearts in so many ways. You two are the strongest couple we know, and we feel truly blessed to be able to follow your journey though your blog and facebook. Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your lives in seeing pictures of your precious babies and following each step of their growth and progress. We continue to have your precious family in our prayers and will look forward to updates. It will be wonderful when the time is right that we can meet them.
Love you,

ReplyDeleteI saw your blog quite a while ago on Kellly's Korner I have twins that were born at 29 weeks and they just turned 17 this past Monday. Because of our time in NICU so many yers ago, i have a special place in my heart for premies. So glad the babies are home. And as for the NICU nurses, i have always said they are angels in scrubs!
